attentes/documentation
by Mouna Nasr 23 Oct '26

23 Oct '26

Mouna ----- Dear all, I would like to start organising the documentary research for WikiCaves and gather your input. Could you please share your thoughts on the types of documents we should prioritise, the libraries we should contact, and any existing contacts we could use? I suggest we start by exchanging emails to define our priorities before contacting the libraries. We can arrange a meeting later if necessary. Thank you in advance for your feedback. Best regards, Mouna

Mouna is coming to help us.
by Frédéric Urien 13 Oct '26

13 Oct '26

Hello, Mouna holds a doctorate and teaches marketing; she has offered to lend us a hand. If it suits you, she could handle contacting libraries that manage karst-related data, introduce them to the UIS Bibliography Commission, and invite them to join. I also suggested that she facilitate discussions on the BBS mailing list ( bbs(a)listes.grottocenter.org) to ensure regular information exchange among the commission members. Mouna, The Bibliography Commission is chaired by Jean-Marc Mattlet (jeanmarc(a)mattlet.be), who is Belgian and passionate about publications dealing with the underground environment. Also serving on the commission's leadership team are: Luca Pisani (biblioteca.speleologia(a)unibo.it), librarian at the Italian Speleological Society library; and Anamaria D. Häuselmann (ana(a)speleo.ch), president of the Scientific Commission of the Swiss Speleological Society. It is this commission that has provided the bulk of the funding for the UIS Bibliography Commission for many years. You can contact the commission's entire management team directly by sending a message to bbs-mngt(a)listes.grottocenter.org, or contact us directly. Frédéric

Energy Harvesting Market: Growth, Trends, Applications, and Future Outlook
by wanrup07＠gmail.com 05 Oct '26

05 Oct '26

The Energy Harvesting Market is expanding as industries increasingly seek self-powered technologies that can generate small amounts of electricity from readily available environmental energy. Energy harvesting technologies capture energy from sources such as light, heat, vibration, motion, radio frequency signals, and other ambient sources and convert it into usable electrical power. The technology is gaining attention across the Internet of Things (IoT), industrial automation, healthcare, consumer electronics, smart buildings, transportation, and wearable devices. The growing deployment of wireless sensors and connected devices is creating demand for power sources that can reduce battery replacement requirements and enable autonomous operation. What Is Energy Harvesting? Energy harvesting is the process of capturing small amounts of energy from the surrounding environment and converting it into electrical energy. Unlike conventional power generation, energy harvesting systems generally produce relatively low power and are designed to operate sensors, wireless devices, monitoring equipment, and other low-power electronics. Please, send your contributions to e-mail: filippi.m(a)seznam.cz (mailto:[email protected]). As before, I have attached a simple template to this email. It is preliminary for now. However, I would like to say a few words about the format of contributions. The clearer and more accurate your contribution to the template, the fewer errors will be caused by extensive editing or shortening. Please also ensure that the text is informative for common readers, is not too long and that you only submit high-quality images that are not duplicates. Remember that a reasonable amount of well-organised text and appropriately selected images will help you present your discoveries clearly, for which readers will thank you. Thank you for understanding. I wish you all the best! Sincerely yours Michal Filippi "

Caution: Emails from [email protected]
by Johannes Mattes 15 Mar '26

Dear colleagues, We have received several reports this week about messages allegedly sent by UIS President Zdenek MOTYČKA from the email address presidemtboard(a)gmail.com. This address is not known to us. Please note that Zdenek’s correct email addresses are: z.motycka(a)mediform.cz president(a)uis-speleo.org A similar incident occurred several years ago, when someone sent messages in Nadja’s name from a different email address. Please therefore verify the sender carefully and treat such messages with caution. Best wishes, Johannes, UIS Secretary General

New Year's news - Message de Nouvel-An
by Jean-marc Mattlet 25 Jan '26

25 Jan '26

English version below **************************************************************************************************** Dear members of the UIS Bibliography Commission Dear fellow cavers, The year has just begun, and I am pleased to wish you a very enjoyable twelve months, filled with projects and successes. I hope that the caving that unites us remains an enriching passion. I hope that your health allows you to live as you wish. Last year, the Bibliography Commission reached a significant milestone: thanks to our two IT interns, two documentation centers integrated their databases into Grottocenter. All documentation centers that use software to manage their collections can now easily access the BBS data. The Belgian and Italian libraries are doing this. The BBS data has been cleaned to ensure its quality and completeness. The Belgian Federation has asked all clubs to authorize the archiving of their publications in Grottocenter. At the same time, Frédéric organized a consultation among you to adapt and improve the list of subjects associated with the documents in order to facilitate searching in the BBS, which currently references more than 225,000 documents. By 2026, we will see these new subjects integrated into the BBS on Grottocenter. The NSS is considering taking on development work on Grottocenter. The Belgian Speleological Union has agreed to host the intern who will be in charge of the work. The SSS Scientific Commission has provided €2,000 in funding for the infrastructure, ensuring the long-term viability of the BBS service. We would like to allocate part of this sum to finalize the AI server, which will allow for the automatic analysis of documents archived in PDF format. Yohann, who worked in Bologna last year, has given his preliminary agreement to take charge of this service. We wish to rebuild connections with documentation centers worldwide that deal with the underground environment and karst. If you know of any libraries that would be interested in joining us, could you please share their contact information on this list? We currently have no contacts with libraries in Asia, Africa (except Lebanon), Oceania, or South America. In North America, we only have exchanges with the University of South Florida. For your part, we encourage you to continue cataloging the documents you discover, as you have been doing for a long time for the BBS. If your organization, or organizations you know, are interested in archiving the documents they have published, please also indicate this on this list. Do you run a documentation center for the UIS ? Do you participate in activities related to documentation on the underground world ? Please let the members of the UIS Bibliography Commission know by sending a message to this list. As you can see, we are committed to making progress on this vast collective project. Happy New Year 2026 Anamaria, Jean-Marc, Frederic & Luca [Une image contenant texte, capture d’écran, Police Le contenu généré par l’IA peut être incorrect.]

UIS documentation commission
by Frédéric Urien 07 Nov '25

07 Nov '25

Hello everyone, As we discussed, I suggest we get back in touch with the UIS documentation centers and perhaps find other people to participate in the work of the UIS bibliography commission. Didier Borg is a member of the Wikicaves association and has offered to help us. The goal is to update the following document: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a9kI-0WYZ9n9RsmiJii4xb1YF_EVSMwuOYx… To update the information on the documentation centers: https://wiki.grottocenter.org/wiki/GrottoCenter:En/List_of_UIS_Documentatio… And to invite people to contact me so I can add them to the mailing list. I personally have exchanges with Spain and the UFS/NKCRI/Karst Portal. If you plan to establish exchanges with a country or organization, could you please indicate this by replying to this message? Do you agree to us inviting all members of the commission to participate in this work? Frédéric
